Guidelines:
Each month, a new challenge will be posted. Readers are encouraged to choose any book they wish, to share what they're reading, and to read each other's selections if they choose. Discussion will be on common themes and personal reactions.
Recommendations and critical discussion are welcome. Personal attacks and inflammatory language are not. Please maintain polite and professional conduct with all readers, and remember that issues relating to race, gender, sexuality, ability, religion, and other topics can be personal and should be discussed respectfully.
Challenges are open to interpretation. A 'western' could include a traditional novel of the American West, a sci-fi cowboy story, a non-fiction book about Native American history, a book of prairie poetry, or published letters written by a woman on the Oregon Trail.
Short on time? Short stories and novellas count, as do books for younger readers. There is no minimum wordcount.
FAQ (Fittingly-Asked Questions):
How does this work?
Choose any book that falls under the umbrella of the month's challenge, let people know what you're reading, and post a review when you're finished.
Why aren't we all reading the same book?
The tricky thing about a book club for bibliophiles is that so many people have sky-high reading lists already. This is intended as a way to participate in a book club without having to abandon your to-read list, find a copy of a specific book, and finish it within a month.
Can I read more than one book?
Absolutely! You can post as many reviews as you'd like.
What if someone else is reading the same book?
Multiple reviews of the same book are welcome--it's always interesting to hear other perspectives and opinions!
What if I didn't read a book this month?
You're still welcome to comment on other readers' reviews and participate in discussions.
Can I recommend books I've already read?
Please do. There will be a comment thread each month with suggestions to help out those browsing for something new, and coordinate those who want to read along with someone else.
Can I recommend a monthly challenge?
Suggestions and ideas are always welcome, and can be added to this discussion.
Where do I post?
Monthly challenges should be submitted as discussions so that they're easy to find. Book reviews should be submitted as posts so that they show up on everyone's feed, with further dialogue in the posts' comments. Any other group conversations can happen wherever seems most appropriate.
Can I post my own discussion?
Yes, though please keep it on-topic for the community.
Can I post or reblog material related to the challenge in the community?
Absolutely! There will always be a comment thread in the monthly challenge discussion for general conversation, but if you've found an amazing resource you want to share immediately, or have created your own playlist or art to accompany the book you've chosen, you're welcome to post it to the community separately from your book review.
